Whether you're new to Denver, considering a move, or simply looking to make the most of the season, summer is when the city truly shines.
Patios fill up. Farmers markets return. Concerts move outdoors. Neighborhood festivals take over the weekends. And suddenly everyone remembers why they love living here.
As a Denver real estate advisor (and mom to a toddler boy), these are some of the places and activities I find myself recommending over and over again.
1. Spend a Morning at the Farmers Market
Few things feel more like summer in Denver than wandering a farmers market with an iced coffee in hand.
My favorites include:
South Pearl Street Farmers Market
One of Denver's largest and most established markets featuring local produce, flowers, food vendors, and live music.
Highlands Square Farmers Market
A neighborhood favorite with a smaller, community feel.
Golden Farmers Market
Perfect for combining with a walk along Clear Creek.
Cherry Creek Fresh Market
Great location and easy to pair with shopping or brunch.
2. Take a Sunset Walk Around Sloan's Lake
If you've never experienced Sloan's Lake at sunset, put it on your list.
The mountain views are incredible, paddleboarders are usually out on the water, and the entire neighborhood comes alive during summer evenings.
Grab dinner nearby and make an evening of it.
My favorite nearby stops:
* Odell Brewing Sloan's Lake
* Gusto
* The Patio at Sloan's
3. Spend a Day in Golden
Golden is one of my favorite places to recommend to both visitors and locals.
You get mountain-town charm while staying close to Denver.
A perfect summer day looks like:
* Coffee downtown
* Walk along Clear Creek
* Lunch on a patio
* Let the kids splash in the creek
4. Visit the Colorado Railroad Museum
If you have a train-loving child, this belongs at the top of your list.
The museum includes:
* Historic locomotives
* Passenger cars
* Interactive exhibits
* Seasonal train rides
My son Benji absolutely loves it.
This is one of the best family outings in the Denver metro area.
5. Enjoy Patio Season in LoHi
Summer and LoHi go together.
Some of my favorites include:
* Lady Jane
* Postino LoHi
* Ash'Kara
* Nana's Dim Sum & Dumplings
* Little Man Ice Cream
A patio dinner followed by a walk through the neighborhood is one of the best ways to spend a summer evening.
6. See a Concert at Red Rocks
Even after years of living here, Red Rocks never gets old.
Whether you're attending a concert or simply hiking the amphitheater, it's one of Colorado's most iconic experiences.
7. Cool Off at a Splash Pad
For parents of young kids, splash pads are essential summer infrastructure.
Some favorites:
* Ralston Park Splash Pad
* Westlands Park + Splash Pad
* Belleview Park
* Broomfield Bay Aquatic Park
8. Grab Ice Cream After Dinner
One of my favorite summer traditions.
Top spots:
Little Man Ice Cream
Sweet Cow
High Point Creamery
9. Explore Tennyson Street in Berkeley
One of Denver's best neighborhood business districts.
Spend a morning:
* Grabbing coffee
* Shopping local boutiques
* Visiting bookstores
* Having lunch on a patio
It perfectly captures why so many people love living in Berkeley.
10. Catch a Movie at Film on the Rocks
A Denver summer tradition.
Bring blankets, snacks, and enjoy a movie under the stars at Red Rocks.
11. Visit the Denver Zoo
Summer mornings are the best time to go.
Pro tip: Arrive early before temperatures climb.
12. Attend a Colorado Rapids Match
One of Denver's most underrated family activities.
The atmosphere is fun, relaxed, and much more family-friendly than many people expect.
13. Spend an Evening at Highlands Square
One of my favorite Denver neighborhoods.
Grab dinner, walk the neighborhood, and stop for dessert afterward.
It's the type of place that makes people fall in love with Denver.
14. Take a Day Trip to Evergreen
Perfect when you want mountain scenery without committing to a full weekend away.
Spend time:
* Walking Evergreen Lake
* Exploring downtown
* Enjoying lunch with mountain views
15. Catch a Summer Festival
Some annual favorites include:
* Cherry Creek Arts Festival
* Underground Music Showcase
* Denver PrideFest
* Colorado Dragon Boat Festival
These events are part of what makes summer in Denver feel so connected and community-focused.
Why People Fall in Love With Denver During Summer
The truth is that most people don't move to Denver because of a specific restaurant or neighborhood.
They move here for opportunity, family, outdoor access, or a new chapter.
Then summer arrives.
And suddenly it's farmers markets on Sunday, patio dinners on Wednesday, concerts on Friday, and mountain adventures on Saturday.
That's usually when people realize they made the right decision.
Thinking about making a move to Denver?
I'd love to help you find not just the right house, but the neighborhood and lifestyle that fits your next chapter.
